Busy packing

I have been so busy with this move. Today I spent all day making address changes. And I am still not done with address changes! I cannot wait for this to be all done. Come on Thanksgiving....I'm needing you to get here quicker.

Pumpkin seeds

I love pumpkin seeds. I love making my own. The store bought are too salty for me. And I really do not like the shells of the store bought. Now, when I make them I love the shells. Here is how I make mine:

Clean them
Soak over night in salt water
Lay out on towel to dry
Put in bag
Add a touch of olive oil and shake
Add garlic salt and shake again
Spread out on cookie sheet
Sprinkle with a tad bit more garlic salt
Cook in a preheated 250 degree oven for about 40 - 60 minutes
Let cool then enjoy

What's your favorite pumpkin seed recipe?

Stormy weather

Thankfully today is quiet. We are getting rain sprinkles and very mild wind. Brooke's school is closed today. By looking at the weather today you would wonder why her school was closed. If you had been here Tuesday and Wednesday you would understand.

We have had a major wind storm here. Two nights in a row we ate dinner by candlelight. Not because we wanted to but because we had no power. Tuesday it was out for about 10 hours. Yesterday we kept having flashes until we ate dinner. Then it went out for an hour. It gets real annoying when you are trying to bake cookies for Brooke's Halloween party at school and the power keeps going out. It puts a real damper on a fun project. But Brooke and I laughed about it. The cookies took 9 minutes to cook and I had to reset the stove four times. We were also trying to use the dishwasher so we had to reset that many times.

2008 Town and Country Minivan Review

My husband is awesome. For Wyatt's birthday he bought the family a 2008 Town and Country minivan. It is wonderful! It drives smooth and the steering is tight. It does not have the power of my old Blazer and I know it will not handle as well on the snow as the Blazer but I am loving the minivan. It fits the three kids in there nicely. I do not have to have Brooke in the front seat anymore. She is now safely in the back conveniently arguing with Madison about everything. But, I have a DVD player so the kids can watch the DVD’s and stay preoccupied while I drive. The best part is, I can put the headphones on them and then switch over to the radio and everyone is happy. Yeah!
Here are the reasons I am loving this minivan:

  • DVD
  • Headphones
  • Heated leather seats
  • Backup camera
  • Airbags
  • Airbag curtains
  • The room
  • The steering
  • The storage
  • The blue color
  • The comfortable seats
  • The stow and go seats
  • The ride is comfortable
  • The breaks are tight
  • It handles great on bumpy roads
  • And my kids love it!

As I think of more I’ll add them. I know there will be more. I’ll post a picture after I take one. I am really impressed with the blue color. It’s not a dark blue but also not a bright blue. It’s the perfect blue for me. Thanks Dean at Don’s Auto Clinic for a wonderful experience at buying my perfect family van!

Happy Birthday Wyatt

My youngest turns one today. It's hard to believe that he is one already.

Trip down memory lane:
I remember his birth like it was yesterday. I still remember the nurse calling an IV tech in because they could not get the IV. I remember being taken to the surgery room and having the needle stuck in my back to numb me so they could do the c-section. I remember the nurses and anesthesiologist getting nervous because the doctor was not there yet to do the c-section. I remember feeling the pressure as the doctor cut. I remember how sick to my stomach I was. The anesthesiologist had to keep giving me medication to keep me from getting sick. I remember that first beautiful cry! I remember the tears rolling down into my hair while I stared in my husbands eyes after that first cry. I remember the amazement on his face when he heard boy. I remember his uttered words of "its a boy". I remember seeing his little face for the first time. I remember touching his little face and hands for the first time. I remember Wyatt opening his little eyes and looking at me for the first time. I remember them taking him to check him over. I remember his cries. I remember how daddy held his little hand for the first time while they were examining him and how he quit crying and stared at daddy. I remember his cries after daddy was pushed to the side. I remember being so impatient while being stitched up.

I remember finally being taken to recovery and being able to hold my son. I remember how quickly he latched on and breast fed for an hour. I remember his first bath. I remember right after that bath the nurse started talking about his breathing being fast. I remember being taken to my room and the nurse mentioning again about his breathing. I remember the NICU doctor coming in and asking me to try to breast feed Wyatt. I remember him saying he was going to take Wyatt to the NICU for 48 hour observation. I remember my son being taken away.

Kids growing up

One week from today will be Wyatt's birthday. His first birthday. My baby is growing up. He is the last. He is starting to walk. He can take anywhere between 3 - 6 steps. He prefers to crawl though since he can get there quicker.

Madison is learning to copy her name. She does a good job. She matches shapes very well too. She knows most of the alphabet and can read them. She can also make some of the letters. She is recognising her numbers 1 - 10.  She is like a little sponge. She loves to learn.

Brooke is learning to read. She is advancing quickly. Her class is also moving from three letter words to four letter words on their spelling. She has been passing her spelling tests. She has yet to miss a word. Yeah Brooke! But not all is rosy with her. Her teacher had to put her name on the board for talking. She is working on listening instead of talking. Luckily we work with her on her spelling and reading. The poor girl gets off the bus and starts homework right away. She does have a little snack before we start though. Today I tested her on her current spelling list and she got zero wrong. She also read five books to me. She is doing great! I am so proud of her.

Life in a cedar swamp?

Why do I live so far from civilization? Is life in the middle of no where really all that fun? Is it really enjoyable putting your 6 year old on the school bus at 5:55 am? Why do I do it?

No, it's not enjoyable getting up at 5 am so your child can catch a bus at 5:55 am. No it's not fun driving an hour to get to the doctor. It's not fun driving an hour to get to Wal-Mart or Meijer. So, why do I think its fun to live on the edge of a cedar swamp?

Troy's surgery

My husband Troy had hernia surgery yesterday. An operation that should have taken about an hour dragged on for almost 2 hours. Seemed like it took longer to me. I was getting worried when the doctor finally came out and talked to me. Troy had more than just a hernia. The doctor said when he got inside he found that a part of Troy's large intestine was attached to his abdominal wall. So the doctor had to remove that and put it back in place before he could proceed. The way the doctor explained it to me it was like an incarcerated hernia. This is where a portion of the colon gets stuck in an outpouching of the abdominal wall. He found the hernia in the same area as the attached intestine. This is why Troy had major pain. He also found that Troy had just recently gotten over colitis. So the doctor took a look at Troy's liver (which is sometimes affected by colitis) and some other organs while in there to make sure everything looked liked it should. He told me everything looked fine and Troy would be feeling much better in a couple of weeks.

He is a little sore today. He is being a good patient though. No whining or crying and for the most part listening to me. He has come down the stairs a few times today and he's feeling it. Someday he will learn to listen to me. One day when he is in his 80's he'll look over at me while we are swinging on our patio swing and he'll say "You know honey, you were right 90% of the time. Why didn't I listen to you more?" OK, so maybe it's not 90% of the time. More like 89.9%.

Kidtoons Barbie - A Fashion Fairytale Giveaway! - Ended

ENDED

I do not like taking my kids to the movies because the kids movies are usually scary. Why pay the high prices when my kids will be crying because the movie is scaring them. Well, I was contacted by Kidtoon Films and their representative (Colette) explained to me how they play kid friendly movies at affordable prices. That got my attention. Kid friendly movies at a movie theater and at affordable prices? So I went to the Kidtoon web site and browsed around. I was impressed.

Here is some information from their site:

5K in 40 minutes

Until today I did not know 3.1 miles is 5K. I decided to look into the couch to 5K. I "liked" their page on facebook and started browsing around. Someone posted that she did the 5K in 28 minutes. That got me curious as to how many miles 5k was. So I did a google search and found out it is 3.1 miles.

Now, for those that do not know I have been walking/jogging on the treadmill off and on since July. I kept slipping off track because of vacation. Well, I like to blame it on vacation rather than laziness. So, being the treadmill freak that I am I had to give it a shot. I can usually do 2 miles in 30 minutes. I knew that was not going to cut it. So instead of walking I did a mix of jog/ fast jog.

Here are the results:
3.1 miles, 40 minutes, 329 calories, 103 fat.

Not bad. If I get my lazy tush in gear and make an honest effort I bet in a month I could get that 40 minutes down to 28.

Almost a year

Where has the time gone? Wyatt will be a year old in less than a month. They grow up too quick. He has been taking steps on his own for the last couple of weeks. Even though he is sick he took a step again today. Ok, let me correct that last statement....he just took 3 steps to the couch. He stood up and walked to the couch. Why do they have to grow up so quick?

Not only is he crawling and starting to walk he is also climbing everywhere. I cannot keep him off the kitchen table, coffee table, couch, chair, or toilet. If the bathroom door is open he goes to the toilet and grabs on to the lid and pulls himself up on the lid. Then he opens the shade a little and looks out. As for the kitchen table, he will push the chairs out or push them up to the table and then promptly climbs up. I put a kitchen chair by the coffee table to hopefully keep him off the kitchen table (which it did for a week) and he just climbed up on the chair and then lowered himself back off. He also pulls himself onto the coffee table and can also lower himself back off it.

My last one and he is growing up so fast. Where does the time go?

First day of first grade

Tuesday was Brooke's first day of first grade. She was so excited. So far she likes her teacher. I met her and I was happy with her.

Now on to the gripe. What school has gym day the first day of school??? Brooke's school of course. She those beautiful tights in the picture? Yeah, they are not so beautiful now. They are in the garbage. Ripped from mid thigh down to toes. So much for sending her to school in pretty dresses. Oh yeah, it also didn't help that she decided the girls were too boring so she played with the boys during recess. She had a wonderful day though.

I think this is going to be a good school year. Hopefully we do not have many missed days this year. I am hoping that she will be healthier since she had her adenoids out and tubes put in her ears. Hopefully there are no infections this year. Did I already say it was going to be a good year? Yeah, it's going to be a good healthy year.

Day Two

Day two of jogging on the treadmill at 6:00 a.m. The first day I was sore. Then I remembered that I had changed the incline for a better workout. This morning I felt fine. I jogged/walked my two miles. I am going to try to stick to a schedule of doing this every morning after Brooke catches the bus. As long as hubby is here or the two younger kids are sleeping.

I felt great after my jog this morning. I seem to have had a better day too. Maybe that is because I had accomplished a couple of things this morning before the younger two woke up. Which is great considering Wyatt did not let me sleep more than four hours last night. Getting Brooke ready to catch the bus at 6 am is not such a bad thing. By 7 am I have already put 2 miles on the treadmill.

I was jogging in the afternoon when Wyatt took his nap. I like this much better. It starts my morning off with a nice sweaty touch. What more can I ask for?

Made By Mama cloth diaper review and giveaway - Ended

The first time we tried http://www.madebymama.com/ cloth diapers was in late 2005. I bought a Winnie the Pooh pocket for Brooke. That diaper started my obsession with Deb’s diapers. Here is a picture of the diaper on Brooke:

Deb Hoppe is the owner of Made By Mama diapers. She is a nice lady to deal with. She has wonderful customer service and top of the line workmanship. I have never had red marks on the babies thighs as I have had with other diapers. Even the one size diapers fit well from small to large. I have never had gaps in the legs for leaks to erupt from. They are comfortable (at least my kids think so) and easy to clean. I have never had build up with her diapers. I have hard water and have to run diapers through the dishwasher but never had to with Deb’s diapers.

Yesterday

Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday.
Wyatt climbing the footstool to get to his spoon:

And here's one of the three kids watching the feral cat that comes around when it's cold out.

And here's from a couple weeks ago when Wyatt was enjoying strawberries:
And here is a picture of the kids just before shopping the other day:
Now we are off to bed!

Why the fascination

Why the fascination with Dora the Explorer? Madison is obsessed with Dora and Diego. For those that do not know, Diego is Dora’s cousin. Brooke and Madison walk around and say some words in Spanish. I have to stop and figure out what they are saying. I guess I better start paying attention to Dora so I know what they are saying.

Wyatt has decided to make it a game to hold his arms out, stick his little tush out, and stand up. He has been doing that more and more the last couple of days. I cannot get pictures of it because he gets so excited by the camera that he falls. The little guy loves the camera. He’s sitting at my feet fussing because he is ready for bed. I was busy with a twitter chat so he missed his bed time. Bad mom! Off to take him to bed. Night Night all!

RLR Laundry Treatment Giveaway - Ended

RLR Laundry Treatment Giveaway - Ended

I have two 1.35 oz packages of  Cadie RLR laundry treatment to giveaway to one lucky winner. I use RLR on cloth diapers and also in my load of whites. My whites come out cleaner than using just bleach. I use RLR in my cloth diapers quite often. I have hard water and the diapers never seem to rinse out all the way unless I use RLR. Now the cloth diapers come out smelling clean.

From the package:
The once a month treatment for all washable fabrics...whites & colors. RLR Laundry Treatment is NOT a soap or bleach. It is a special treatment to remove dulling dried in particles from fabric. It leaves whites whiter and colors brighter. During regular washing, mineral deposits in the water; dirt and soil sediments; and residual matter from detergent all accumulate in the fabric causing it to look dingy. RLR Laundry Treatment works by removing these particles from the clothing, holding them in suspension in the water and preventing redeposition so they rinse away leaving fabric looking like new.

When to use RLR?
Whenever your things begin to look dingy. RLR is safe to use as often as you wish...fabrics actually last longer with regular use.

Directions:

Open package and empty directly on dry or wet laundry in washing machine. Wash as usual with detergent, softener, etc. as desired. RLR Laundry Treatment can also be used for hand washing of one or two small pieces of clothing--just use a small amount in a basin of water.

RLR - For Whiter whites & brighter colors.
No phosphates - Non-Polluting - Bio-Degradable

Contest ends Sunday September 5th at 12 am EST.

Why you think an Energizer Smart Charger would make your life easier

You go through many batteries when you are a parent. When you are a parent of three children you go through three times the amount of batteries. Especially as children get older and they have complicated toys. Like my two girls have leap pads. It seems most toys need batteries today. Thanks to Jleigndesignz.com and Energizer I have a chance to receive an Energizer Smart Charger and a $15 gift card to Target. You can read about it here. What a great way to save money and keep batteries out of landfills!

Five Lessons Every Child Should Learn

Five Lessons Every Kid Should Learn

Here is my list of five lessons. It was hard to narrow down. I am also big on keeping their area and toys clean. I just could not find a place to add it in the other categories. The following five are more important to me.
1) Be polite. My children must say please, thank you, and you’re welcome.

2) Respect themselves, others, and their space. Toys are included in the respect category.

3) Be nice. No hitting, calling names, saying hurtful things on purpose, and other not so nice behavior. This mom really dislikes calling names or saying something to hurt others on purpose. It’s not tolerated in my household.

4) Food and money are not luxuries. You have to work for money. Money buys the food. Don’t waste either.

5) Learn something new everyday. You can never know enough. By setting the goal to learn something new everyday they will have a better chance at succeeding in life.

And mom catches on

Poor Brooke. Three times today I have heard Madison telling Brooke to clean something up. So I would go into the room to see what is going on and tell Brooke to clean up the mess. I had assumed Brooke had made it. Well, I just caught Madison destroying a toy and telling Brooke to clean up the mess. That does not go over well with mom. Mom does not like her children being mean to each other. And here is Maddie Jean making messes and then telling Brooke to clean it up. So a very upset mom tells Madison to clean up the mess. She gives me the evil look and says "NO, Brookie clean it up!". I give Madison the "mom" look and tell her since she made the mess she will clean it or she will get in trouble. She smiled and cleaned it up. KIDS!

Cranky baby today

Wyatt is cutting his first tooth. Well, his first two teeth. Both bottom teeth are coming in. So without thinking I grab the kids and go out school clothes shopping for Brooke. Brooke and Madison both got haircuts. As we were picking out styles Grandpa showed up. So the shopping trip started out great. Wyatt loves my dad. So they played while the girls got their haircuts. Then we went to Subway and ate. That went well until the last 10 minutes. Nothing Grandpa or I did was ok with Wyatt. It went downhill from there. All Wyatt wanted to do from then on was fuss. We made it through the shopping trip (my sanity is still in question though). I have to exchange some jeans because they were too big. We ended up just grabbing size 7's and checking out. Well, the size 7 jeans are too big. So a return trip is in order. For sanity sake I will have to pick a day when Wyatt is in a better mood.

290 calories

Yesterday I burned 290 calories on the treadmill. That was the most I have burned yet. I also put 2.5 miles on the treadmill. I always feel so much better after working out.

Here are my stats for the last week:
8/10/10 35 minutes, 2 miles, 222 calories, 70 fat
8/14/10 39 minutes, 2 miles, 210 calories, 67 fat
8/15/10 46 minutes, 2.5 miles, 290 calories, 91 fat

I am at 123 lbs and hoping to be down to 107 by October 13th.

16 lbs to go!

Hopefully done

We have had high fevers raging through the house this week. Monday started off with Brooke having a 102.4 fever. We had to keep giving her Tylenol to lower her temp all day Monday and part of Tuesday. Then we were sick free until Wyatt got it Friday. Poor little guy had it for 2 days. Today was the first day since Friday I did not have to give him Tylenol. I do not give my children Tylenol every 4 - 6 hours. Only as they spike a fever. And it wasn't Tylenol since that is recalled. It was the Walmart or Meijer brand. Madison has not caught it yet and hopefully she doesn't.

First tooth

Baby Deer (that is what Madison calls Wyatt) is finally cutting his first tooth. He has been fussier the last couple of days so I checked his gums. There were other signs too. Like I was feeling some pain too while breastfeeding, his nonstop drooling, and of course the biting everything in site.

Now comes the fun of the girls running around screaming because brother is trying to bite them. And yes, it has already started. He has bit Brooke a couple of times. She laughs right now because the tooth is just starting to come through the skin. But in a couple of days she won't be laughing. I am hoping it will be as easy to teach him not to bite as it was the girls. Brooke bit me once and Madison was a little more stubborn. She bit Brooke and I a few times. Wyatt and I have already had our differences when he was breastfeeding and clamping down as hard as he could. I would scream and he would laugh. After 15 minutes I had to put him on the ground and let him scream for 5 minutes. Then he was fine. I foresee many bites in our future before I can get him to understand that biting is not allowed in this house.

I just realized that Daddy hadn't been bitten by the girls....will he escape the teeth this time? We shall find out!

I had to blog this....

I had to blog about the Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag Boxy Backpack giveaway at http://sugarpopribbons.blogspot.com/2010/08/layla-grayce-petunia-pickle-bottom.html. Why you may ask? Well, I simply love the http://www.laylagrayce.com/Default.aspx site. It has the coolest looking baby carrier that I ever saw. The merchandise on that site is awesome. The Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag Boxy Backpack had a lot of choices in colors. I had a very hard time picking just one. And I am secretly hoping to win that bag.

Here are some features about the bag that I love:

water-resistant lining

convenient zip out changing station with detachable pad for easy cleaning

removable dirty diaper pouch

valet clips will attach the boxy backpack to your stroller

Who couldn’t fall in love with a bag with all the above features?

I could picture the kids and I walking through the stores with that fancy bag. Here’s the one that I love:

Vacation break

We have been on vacation. This is the first time in 7 years that we have taken a vacation. We went down to the father in laws house on the lake. The kids had a blast. They went out fishing with daddy on the boat a few times and fished off the dock. I think catching frogs was the big highlight for them.

I got to meet up with my Aunt that I have not seen since 1997. The last time I saw her was at my moms funeral. It was a bittersweet meet up. It was wonderful to see her but there was sadness at the missing of my mom. So many memories came rushing back when I saw my Aunt. Wonderful memories! My kids loved meeting with her. They have decided to call her Grandma because she is so special.

Here are some pictures from vacation. Sorry about the picture quality. I took the pictures with my phone camera.

Usually I cloth diaper but I decided to use disposables while visiting relatives. Here is a picture of Wyatt in one of the new blue jean Huggies. I am not a huge fan of disposables but I have to say they are cute. Here's the picture of Wyatt sporting his cool huggies blue jean diaper:

Cloth diapering babies

It's hard to believe that I have been cloth diapering for 5 years. It is amazing the many different cloth diapers out there. I have tried most brands out there. Well, most major brands. I have tried tried all of the etsy or hyenacart. Just recently I have started using g diapers. I like them. I have also tried grobaby and like them. I am getting leaks in front from my son though on the grobabies. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I have one grovia and it seems to be just like the grobaby besides a few minor changes. I have medium g diapers and thinking of getting larges to see if they will fit my son better. The rise seems to be a little short. But I have not had a leak yet. For night I use fitteds and wool. I love fitteds and wool. I have never had a leak with that combination. So maybe I better stick with what works.

I love giveaways

Why do I love giveaways? Well, it's not just because I can win something. It's because I find out what is out there. I do not have much time to shop. I always run through the stores. So I get to learn what is out there by other people blogging about them. And...I also love to win free stuff! :)

Losing weight with....

sparkspeople. Yes, I am one of the millions of people that have joined the sparks team. I started back in 2008 but got pregnant so I had to stop. Now I have joined their ranks yet again. It worked the first time and it is working again.

I started last Wednesday July 7th. My starting weight was 127 lbs. I will be weighing in tomorrow morning to see where I am at. I cheated and weighed in yesterday and weighed 125.2 lbs.

I like sparkspeople. You can join groups that are suited for you. Like I joined one for people under 5"3". You add what you eat and it tells you how many calories, fat, carbs, and protein was in the food. You have to own what you eat (if you take it serious and add in everything you eat). It helps you keep track of your excersize too. Sparkspeople will make a fitness routine for you to help you reach your goal. You can also track nutrients. There are so many neat things to help you lose weight with sparkspeople. And the best thing is, is that it is not a diet! You can eat whatever you want! I love it!

The start of something new

Blogging is something completely new to me. I have decided to take the big step of learning how to blog. But, like with everything else I do I decided to jump in head first. Start a blog then research how to do it. So, here I am with my first post
